What is VarsityScape?

2 min read

We often refer to VarsityScape as the Academy Operating System.

Unlike traditional Learning Management Systems (LMS) that simply host video files, VarsityScape provides the complete digital infrastructure to run a modern, high-touch educational institution.

It is designed to replace the fragmented stack of tools (Zoom for classes, WhatsApp/Slack for community, Dropbox for content…) with a single center for online learning.

This guide explores how VarsityScape is structured and how its core components work together to power your online academy.

Hierarchy #

To understand how to build on VarsityScape, you must first understand how the platform is organized. Think of it like a physical university campus, but digital.

  1. The Academy (The Campus): The highest level of organization. This is your branded school, your public landing page, and your administrative dashboard.
  2. The Course (The Subject): The specific topic you are teaching (e.g., “Product Design 101”).
  3. The Cohort (The Class Batch): A specific group of students learning that topic together during a set timeframe (e.g., “Spring 2026 Batch”).
  4. The Module (The Weekly Topic): How you organize your curriculum content within a course.

1. The Academy #

Everything starts here. Your Academy is a standalone entity that belongs to you.

  • Branding: You customize the logo, banner, and description. When students log in, they see your academy.
  • Public Site: A dedicated, SEO-friendly landing page where you can showcase your mission, instructors, testimonials and available courses.
  • Extensions: A modular settings area where you can toggle specific features on or off, ensuring your dashboard remains powerful without being cluttered.

2. The Course Builder (Cohort vs. Self-Paced) #

The engine of VarsityScape is the Course Builder, which supports two distinct learning models:

  • Cohort-Based (Recommended): Designed for high-engagement programs. You set a specific Start Date and End Date. Students move through the material together, unlocking interaction and community features that drive completion rates.
  • Self-Paced: Designed for “evergreen” content. Students buy the course and watch it on their own time, with no schedule pressure.

3. Live Classes & Scheduling #

We solve the logistics of online education. Instead of manually pasting Zoom links into WhatsApp groups, VarsityScape centralizes your schedule.

  • Integrated Scheduling: Schedule Live Classes directly inside the course dashboard using our internal integrations.
  • Automated Notifications: The system automatically emails students and sends dashboard alerts before class starts, drastically improving attendance.
  • Calendar View: Both instructors and students have a unified calendar showing all upcoming deadlines and live sessions.

4. The Community Hub #

Learning is social. VarsityScape embeds community directly into the learning experience, so you don’t need a separate Discord or Slack server.

  • Course Channels: Every course gets dedicated chat spaces (e.g., #general, #announcements) where students can discuss material.
  • Learner Profiles: Click on any student to see their profile as a snapshot of their bio, attendance, grades, and other links.
  • Direct Messaging: Secure, private communication between instructors and learners.

5. Verifiable Credentials #

The goal of your academy is to create outcomes. VarsityScape allows you to issue Certificates of Completion that are more than just PDFs.

  • Smart Templates: Use our pre-built, professional designs or upload your own.
  • Automated Issuance: Set criteria (e.g., “Must complete 100% of modules”) to automatically award certificates to successful students.

Key Terminology #

  • Academy Owner: The creator of the institution. Has full admin rights to billing, branding, and settings.
  • Instructor: A role that can manage courses, grade assignments, and schedule live classes, but cannot change academy billing.
  • Learner: The student role. Can view content, submit work, and chat in the community.
  • Cohort: A specific instance of a course with a defined group of students and a set schedule.
